From the Throne: Editor’s Picks

Seana Kelly Author Portrait
Seana Kelly
Seana Kelly builds an urban fantasy universe that actually remembers its own history. Two interlocked heroines, found family dynamics, slow burn romance, and real narrative consequence give her world long term depth. If you love continuity driven fantasy that rewards attention, this universe belongs on your list …

The Others Series by Anne Bishop: Dark Worlds, Fierce Boundaries

In The Others series, Anne Bishop flips the usual urban fantasy balance of power. Humans do not rule this world. The Terra Indigene do. The tension comes from survival, negotiation, and learning where the line between safety and control truly sits. These books focus on community, trust earned slowly, and a heroine who grows stronger by choosing compassion without surrendering her boundaries. The series fits perfectly here because it centers resilience, found family, and a woman who reshapes her life instead of waiting for rescue.

Paranormal Women’s Fiction – Magic, Midlife, and Second Chances

Paranormal Women’s Fiction blends magic with reinvention, centering women who rebuild their lives after everything was supposed to be settled. These stories focus on growth, second chances, and identity beyond traditional timelines, where power often arrives alongside responsibility rather than escape. I love PWF because it allows romance, friendship, and personal change to exist together, showing that transformation does not belong only to the young and that starting over can be its own kind of magic.

Roasting With Love…

I Love This Genre and I Will Absolutely Roast It
I love this genre. I reread it, recommend it, and defend it. I also laugh at it more than I probably should. Loving something deeply means noticing its habits, its nonsense, and the moments where intensity accidentally turns into comedy. This is affectionate roasting from the inside …

The Rule of This Realm

At Heroines With Bite, we review fantasy and paranormal romance through one uncompromising lens: the strength of the woman at the center of the story. We are here for agency, resilience, growth, and power earned, not handed over.

If the heroine is passive, diminished, or written to be saved instead of to rise, we will call it out. If she commands the page, claims her space, and owns her choices, we will celebrate her.

The Heroine’s Vault

Enter at your own risk! These are the stories where women fight back and win.

The Woman Behind the Bite

I read for power, agency, and growth. I am here for women who fight back, think for themselves, and refuse to be written small. I have no patience for fragile heroines, lazy character work, or stories that mistake suffering for depth. With a background in copy editing and proofreading, I also judge the craft itself. Sloppy execution does not get a free pass.

Heroines With Bite was created as a space for readers who want more. More strength. More backbone. More substance. If a heroine earns her crown, I will champion her. If she does not, I will say so.
